We will celebrate our Ramadhan and Hari raya (eid) in Brunei this year before our flight back

We flew back to Brunei last Friday and took the Emirates flight from Muscat to Dubai. Not many people on board. We arrived at the new Terminal 3 at Dubai airport. Went out to City centre for some food and shoppings. Dubai summer surprise is on until August. It's a good time to shop as the discount is up to 70pct. Can't resist the sale in Dubai. We had almost 9hrs wait in Dubai so we took the opportunity to go out and do some shoppings....

During checked in at Dubai we were told that we had to pay 20kg excess, cos our checked in luggage from Muscat were almost 100kgs, so after some negotiation , we only paid 10kgs ( a reduced excess) .

So there! (RBA) are really strict on excess baggage nowadays, only 20kg flat allowed.

At the airport, we stayed at Marhaba lounge in Dubai for some snacks and coffee and to freshen up . Thanks to HSBC premier. We board RBA flight at 9.45hrs from Dubai and arrived safely the next day.

I have been very very busy lately. We got a lot of invitations (makan makan) almost every night... macam kami pulang yg farewell. This week alone we have a series of dinner invitations.

Yesterday night we had a dinner at one of the embassy's staff.

Alhamdulillah, Hazim back from umrah five days ago and followed by a doa selamat at Rashidi's place the next day. We pray that we will perform the Umrah soon. Our last trip to Mecca was in the year 2003, that was during our pilgrimage to Mecca.

Hj & the family will be leaving Oman for good at the end of the month .

Summer holidays

Summer holiday is finally here. People are busy with packings,buying souveniers for family back home,sorting out visas,worrying about the dreadful swine flu,worrying about missing their flights etc and in my case I'm busy checking on the flu vaccines, unfortunately it is not available at any private clinics here.

Not even PDO clinic has it. I have yet to find out if it is available in the government hospital. Just keep my fingers crossed!

Though swamped up with those worries, we did not forget our few friends whose going to leave Oman either for good or just for a short summer vacations. We managed to catched up at Darcy's kitchen last week. Flo is leaving Oman for good in July- farewell to you dear friend, and the rest are going back home. Freda is off to Uk for her summer

vacation,me n Ritzy are off to Brunei and Eka will be flying off to Indonesia.

We wish everyone a safe and blessed journey back home .

It's amazing to see how the weather keeps changing. A week ago everyone were complaining about the extremely hot weather which reached to 51 degrees Celsius, humid and sticky. Today it dropped to 32 degrees c , that was surprisingly a nice weather though the humidity is still on the higher side. Hope it gets better everyday .

We had a farewell gathering last Thursday for our beloved friend Kak Hjh Asinah, from the Brunei Embassy. We gathered at around 1030am and enjoyed the home made meals. Nasi lemak, laksa sarawak, pais daging, sambal udang,shepherd's pie,karipap,kueh kueh,teh tarik etc... mmm...yummy.

Later in the afternoon, someone came up with an idea to extend the gathering sampai malam and decided to make a BBQ. A 2 in 1 farewell party. So they started to send text messages and
call those who already left. It was really fun, as there's so many chef turun padang.Everyone was so busy cooking. They came up with different kind of dishes.

It was a pleasure to have you guys around. Our last guest left at 1.30am ....hehee

To Kak Hjh Sinah, all the best to you and keep in touch always.

A sports award dinner was held last night at Crowne Plaza Hotel by British School of Muscat. My son got a surprise of a lifetime when he was awarded as "the player of the year" under 14 during the award ceremony. A well deserved award for him for representing his school's in football. He represented his school to Bahrain & Dubai. He played actively in Muscat leagues eversince he came to Muscat 6years ago. Well done Hazim!

ARTEFACTS’ — The British School Muscat’s exhibition of Art & Design — began at the Omani Society for Fine Arts on Sunday evening. It was formally opened by Ali Abdul Khaliq Ibrahim, Qatar Airways’ Regional Manager for the Arabian Peninsula and Iran, in the presence of senior staff of The British School, students, parents and other guests.
Artefacts 2009 — the sixth in the current series of annual exhibitions by BSM — showcases the art and design work of GCSE and A Level students, as well as those of Key Stage Three (Years 7- 9). The five-day show, which concludes on May 28, also offers art enthusiasts an insight into the creative development each student goes through, and the excellent creative standards achieved by BSM students.
In remarks to the Observer, the chief guest, Ali Abdul Khaliq, praised the high standards of the work on display, as well as the creative potential of the young artists behind the exhibits. “It’s truly amazing that young students can produce such incredible work. Some of the artists here have explored themes, media and colour schemes that pay testimony to their artistry and talent. I was also pleased to see that many of the exhibits blend Omani concepts and motifs with themes drawn from the artist’s own cultural background. This artistic effort in bridging cultures is a noteworthy feature.”
The chief guest also paid tribute to the prodigious talent of the student artists whose work is on show at Artefacts. “I was impressed by the fact that many of the exhibits on display was the result of a few hours of work in front of the canvas. This goes to show how gifted these students are. For our part, Qatar Airways is keen to encourage and nurture such talent. In our effort to recognise such talent, we have advised the Head of The British School that the best entry will get a ticket to any one of the 16 destinations served by Qatar Airways in Europe.”
Earlier, in welcome remarks at the inauguration, a senior representative of the British School praised the Head of Art & Design Department, Rachel Connor, for her “outstanding contribution” in enhancing Art & Design standards at the school. Achievement and standards continued to rise under Connor’s leadership, he noted, as was attested by the presence of an incredible four students from the British School in the top ten ranking of performing students in the GCSE Art and Design examination last year.

Nothing much to do today. We had lunch , the Hydrabad briyani and mutton curry. On the way,traffic was awful and the summer heat makes me dizzy. I dozed off at the sofa while watching tv this afternoon. It's been a while rasa nya "enda tidur tengahari".
Normally I have to rush to fetch my kids from school, but since Hazim had a guitar lesson till 5pm today, so I can sleep longer.

The Bruneian ladies in Oman were invited by the Brunei Ambassador's wife for breakfast at her residence in Oman. Many thanks to Puan Hjh Multazam for hosting and inviting us to her beautiful residence in Shatti Al Qurum. There were plenty of Brunei food served, including traditonal delicacies prepared by us and Puan Hjh herself, definitely a day to remember.

Finally...... our internet connection is back. Ever since we moved to our new house we have been applying for the land line and ADSL, unfortunately the service provider which is Omantel were unable to provide us just yet as their cabinets are full. You can imagine how frustrating is that.

Anyway, we got our house phone connected two days ago and I am soooo happy, the waiting game is finally over and the kids are really excited after not being able to browse or even do their own thing during that two freaking months apart from using their mobile wap which cost them a bomb!

Once-in-a-lifetime experience for Bruneians in Oman

More than 80 Bruneians and family members residing in the capital city of Oman were given the opportunity to greet His Majesty during the ruler's two-day State Visit to the sultanate.

At least 28 families based in Muscat and Sur - three hours' drive to Muscat - were given access inside the Al-Alam Palace for the first time to greet the monarch.
Despite His Majesty's hectic schedule, the 'junjung ziarah' from the Bruneians was slotted into His Majesty's programme and the Bruneians received the news with anticipation.

"There was unconfirmed information earlier that His Majesty would be stopping by Oman as part of his working visit to the Gulf states. We later come to know after watching the television news of His Majesty's State Visit to Kuwait," said Haji Zulane bin Haji Othman, the Senior Well Engineer working at Petroleum Development of Oman (PDO).

On Wednesday, when news of His Majesty's arrival surfaced, nearly 20 Bruneians gathered at Kalbooh Park in Mattrah and waved the national flag to catch a glimpse of His Majesty heading to the Al-Alam Palace.

For security reasons, the streets leading to the palace in the old town of Muscat were closed to traffic and some of the Bruneians did not make it to the gathering.
"We lined up along the date trees of Muscat and waved the Bruneian flag to catch His Majesty's attention when the motorcade passed through the road. We were excited to see His Majesty waving back," said Hajah Florinda binte Haji Mejenis, whose husband is also working at PDO.

It was only Thursday morning that a Bruneian Embassy representative notified the Bruneian families about the 'junjung ziarah' with His Majesty at the palace.
"It was overwhelming to be given access to enter the Al-Alam Palace. I have been staying in Muscat for over six years and the only part of the palace we were able to see was the entrance. We were happy to be able to pass beyond the palace gates for the first time," said Hjh Faridah binte Hj Johari.

Bruneians gathered at the Brunei Embassy in Shatti, Qurrum as early as 4pm local time (8pm Brunei time), and three government buses transported the group, accompanied by Bruneian and Omani government officials to the palace.
At the palace, they were subjected to security inspection and then led to the waiting lounge.

After an hour, the Bruneians were ushered to a palace hall where they lined up for the ruler's arrival.

Soon afterwards, His Majesty arrived, shook hands and queried about their stay in the country.

Most of the Bruneians are working at PDO and Oman LNG.

Some of them are also BSP/BLNG employees who are on cross-posting assignments.

"We are truly grateful to His Majesty for taking the time to mingle and ask about our welfare here. This shows the monarch's concern for his subjects outside of Brunei. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and we hope His Majesty will drop by again in the future," said Awg Hairol Nizam bin Mokti, the Senior Drilling Engineer in PDO who has been in Muscat for over six years.

His Majesty had taken the time yesterday to receive the Bruneians, prior to a private dinner with Sultan Qaboos Thursday evening.

His Majesty left the Sultanate of Oman Thursday at about 12 midnight (4am Brunei time), marking the end of his State Visit to the Gulf state.

The day I went for root canal.............

I was in real pain. I was unable to sleep the night before.Could hardly open my eyes as the pain worsen. The dentist knew how painful it was for me so she decided to do an emergency root canal. She was really gentle and has a light hand apart from my deep root..... she couldn't hardly reach it especially with her being pregnant.
I used to have a major fear of the dentist . Local anesthesia was given repeatedly until I cannot think. The molar tooth has to be cleaned and later filled. The pain was not that bad but the aftermath PAIN is worse than the procedure. It took almost two hours and I knew I'm going to snap if she's going to keep my mouth open for another hour!.

I was given antibiotics and a higher dose of Ibuprofen. The down side is I have a swelling on my face and I spent the whole day sleeping..........

Believe it or not, I turn 38 today. Almost 40…I don’t really feel mature enough, that's why you

get to see sponge bob on my birthday. :P

Interestingly, two of my kids celebrate their birthday on the same month.

I've got a birthday shout out as early as yesterday. Thanks for the thought. I was hoping no one remember.

All I can say is the mall was HUGE!

The aquarium was the largest that I have ever seen!

The mall is right next to the world tallest building in Dubai which will be ready in Sept 2009.

Over 1200 shops and make sure you carry your wallet around as there's a lot to shop for. :P

My favourite place was the food court!

The food court was nice, you can sit @ the balcony and watched the man made water fall . I got headache just to see the water fall's and had to swap chairs with hubby :P

But don't worry, it's still nice to sit outside as the weather is slightly cooler.

We didn't browse the entire shops as the feet is screaming for mercy , we stop for coffee at 2nd cup and off to the city centre.

Atlantis Dubai

We've got 4days holiday in total plus the weekend being the National day .

It's time to plan a trip to Dubai again perhaps tomorrow morning.

We might visit the Atlantis Dubai at Palm Jumeirah. Last Saturday, they spend 20million on its grand opening gala mostly on fireworks and jetting celebs from around the world. It has 2000 rooms.

Naturally, the price of this hotel is not cheap, starting from $1000 per night.

The world largest Dubai Mall has just open recently. With over 1200 shops and having the world largest indoor aquarium. Sounds interesting.

Blue Mosque

I can see the domes of the Blue mosque from where I stand.

During the Byzantine Era there was a hippodrome near the Blue Mosque with a capacity of 10,000 people. In 1606, Sultan Ahmet wanted to build a mosque bigger, more majestic and more beautiful than the Saint Sophia Church, and he did indeed build a mosque; you will be the one to judge which one is more impressive.
The Blue mosque is called "Sultan Ahmet Camii" in Turkish, which means the Mosque of Sultan Ahmet. The mosque was built in the classic Ottoman style and is located just in front of Saint Sophias' Church the Sultan Ahmet district of Istanbul. Mosques were generally built to be used as a public service for the citizens.
There are some buildings near the Blue mosque which include a theology school, a Turkish bath, a kitchen that used to serve soup for the poor, and shops. The shops would provide revenue for maintaining the mosque.
The Blue mosque, as the name implies, was decorated with blue tiles and also glass-work with the same color. There are no images or statues inside the mosque since Islam forbids praying to images of any kind.
Before entering the mosque you should take your shoes off. You should not wear miniskirts, shorts, or very low neckline dresss. The staff at the mosque will give you a wrap-round shawl cover yourself if they find your clothing is not appropriate for the mosque.

I've got 2 text messages from a friend this morning. Asking whether I was still in bed or have I been shopping? It was like 7.30am and I thought who in the right mind would go shopping at this hour?.:P

So I replied I am still running around in my pyjamas trying to fixed myself some breakfast.

Anyway, to cut long story short, I 've got another text inviting me for a cuppa. So I have to cancel my shoppings today.

It was good to see Rina there too. We have not seen each other for a while..we had a good chat. She had a baby boy.

"That's great news".....! I replied.

I picked him up after school and he was so excited to see mommy and I got a bear hug too. :P

I am glad that he is enjoying school and slowly adjusting to the preschool transitions.

This morning I was so excited. My 2years and 9months old son went to Pre Nursery for the first time. He cried though but it was normal for a kid to see his mommy leaving him in the care of another person. Anyhow, the teacher phoned me at 9am to let know he is fine and has stop crying. He did some kite painting too in red and orange with lots of gold glitters!
Bravo my boy. Mommy loves u so much!
p.s I remember going to school at the age of 5 :P

These are some memoirs of Istanbul during our last holiday. The Ayasofia stood beautiful and the visit to Istanbul is not complete if you don't stop here. AyaSofia is just across the blue mosque.One can always hear the soothing prayer call by the blue mosque. Along the path

there's a park and water fountains . A beautiful place where you can just sit and relaxed.

BTW,I owe these pictures to my daughter as I snagged it off her camera. Lol!

Spice Bazaar was build in 1664. It was also known as Egyptian bazaar. The mosque next to the bazaar was called Yeni mosque.

We went there yesterday in the morning and half way walking , my foot hurts so badly and hubby waived for a taxi and the taxi took us to the pier instead and let us walked along the jetty. Spice bazaar was like 600 metres away. It's a mini version of Grand bazaar and all Turkish

products are all up for grab. Very coloufrul market and as you entered you will love this place and you could test your bargain skill here.Well, hubby didn't like the way I bargain as I will insist

for a very low discounted price. :P

Turkish shopkeepers can be persistent too and always find a way for you to look at and buy their goods.

We've bought a few hand made ceramics and frames and some collectibles items. Heaps of head scarves (tudong) with beautiful colours are also available which comes in different sizes. I could spend hours and hours here as it was a covered bazaar and every corner of the bazaar there are always people selling food and drinks.....shawarma etc. So you won't feel hungry in here.

Blue Mosque Istanbul

My day starts at 6am today, the azan can be heard from our apartment. We decided to visit

the Aya Sophia and later on to grand Bazaar. We were at the grand bazaar yesterday from 1pm-6pm and yet we haven't explore the whole bazaar as it is so huge and yet so colourful. Weather was nice and cold.

The bazaar was a place which is not to be missed. I could stay here forever .......:P

The carpets and home furnishing are all over the place. Handmade carpets are so popular, they called it Kilims. There is a story in each knot and color. Fantastic!

So much work and love given to the lovely kilims and that's why the price of a carpet can be

so expensive.

Sony Center

After iftar at Zam Zam restaurant last night we went to the Sony center, this is where the

premier of spiderman took place. We walked along the city last night and when we reached home everyone felt so tired. We had a good sleep and I had a sore leg this morning but it was ok I still managed to go 4 shopping this morning. Huhuuhu.... :P

Btw, Selamat hari raya to all Muslims especially in Brunei Darussalam, we celebrated hari raya today with a small makan.

Tomorrow we have an invitation for open house at one of the Brunei Embassy staff in Berlin. Stay tune :)

We arrived safely in Berlin via Istanbul . Weather is fantastic. Upon arrival we were greeted by our dearest friend. Though hectic , I'm glad that the kids didn't complain especially the little one.
We stayed in an apartment which is surrounded by huge shopping malls. Couldn't wait to go out but let me just give the feet a rest before we are out for shopping and sight seeing. :P

Two of our fat goldfish died today. :(

So we only left with one gold fish now and 6 Japanese koi.

Normally goldfishes have a long lifespan,they could live between 8 to 10 years .

Those dead fish were just over two years old. A friend told me to seperate the koi

and keep the goldfish by itself..??

I think I need to check the water temperature beforehand, something must have gone wrong?.

Will get another gold fish when we come back from the holiday. Peace!

At a gathering last night, a couple of friends asked me to update my blog. I wish I could blog everyday but things are a little bit slower for me lately...I guess it's just because I can't think of anything else to write....especially when my stomach is empty and my head is constantly yearning for a pillow.

Anyhooo, I just finished watching Prison Break 3. I know most of you probably have watched the Season 4 . I wonder what happen to Sucre behind the bars and whose head was thrown in the box? :P

But the interesting news is ...I've got my tickets from the airlines office yesterday and we are going for another holiday in a week time.

I just had the time to blog. It's exactly two weeks after my summer vacations.

Leaving Brunei in the midst of Ramadhan was really sad.

I was glad I could fast and performed the Teraweh prayer with the family and friends back home.

Anyway I am back in Muscat now to join the rest of the Bruneian here. The weather was fairly good when we arrived. Really a blessing. Looking foward for another holiday back to Brunei and
